Senior Engineer – Air Intake System

Job Profile and skills
  • You shall be working on Air filter technologies, air intake system design for Internal combustion engine, Battery/ fuel cell electric vehicles as primary area of responsibility, working closely with suppliers in the development and validation of air filters & air intake system parts.
  • As a senior engineer, you will be responsible for defining, developing the components & proving the design & installation meets the component and system requirements. In your work, there will be frequent contacts with other departments within Volvo.
  • You will have your area responsibilities while working with cross functional team & peers in other teams. You will be responsible to interface with other stake holders such as Manufacturing, Purchasing and Aftermarket.
  • Additional responsibilities on other engine peripheral components and advanced engineering activities may be added based on the project needs.
  • You will have to deliver design solutions , closely interact with suppliers for DFMEA, work & deliver other quality tools to ensure the solutions are robust and capture the cross functional inputs
  • You shall also follow and evolve continuously the best practices related to design and installation of components and share the same with local teams and global engineering community.
  • There will be opportunity to work with start cost (New product development) projects and Maintenance projects. You will also manage global delegations and support the global teams with your expertise in these areas.

  • At our level, you will also be managing the work and hold the delivery responsibility for an extended team working with you. You shall be also involved in supporting & developing the new members in the team in the defined areas.
  • You should have sound knowledge of automotive domain and on air intake systems.
  • Knowledge on air filter & air intake system
    • Functionalities and failure modes
    • Serviceability requirements
    • Design requirements & specification development for air intake system based on the engine functional requirements / requirements for electric vehicles
  • CAD skills - Proficient with Creo surface modeling -
    • To be able to build packaging geometries and models in Creo surfacing
    • Should be able to propose Geometry changes / Markups on the supplier CAD models
  • Manage and work with large architectural / packaging assemblies in CAD
  • Should be able to handle and manage information from and to supplier , be part of supplier discussions and RFQ process
  • Should be able to work on advanced engineering and technologies.
  • Lead tasks independently and report to global engineering / technology communities.
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills with good verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of Volvo documentation systems / tools like KOLA would be considered as an asset..
Qualification and skills
  • Experience in handling new product development and maintenance projects.
  • In depth knowledge of the product development life cycle and change management activities for maintenance are required for this role.
  • Developing robust time plans for the components according the development and validation needs.
  • Experience in air management system for Conventional and Electric vehicles.
  • Experience in developing DFMEA and other quality tools.
  • Leading tasks independently, good planning and monitoring skills.
  • Working experience in PDM and PLM.
  • Engineering degree with strong fundamentals and good analytical skills.
