Solution Architect

As a Solution Architect you will join the digitization journey at Volvo Group and actively contribute to shaping the next generation customer experience in the retail area.

A strong connection with Enterprise Architects, Product Manager and Product Owners is required in accordance with the Enterprise Architect framework.

The main (but not exclusive) characteristics of the Architect's job are as follows:
  • A holistic view of the enterprise, its business capabilities, processes, information model and supporting IT portfolio
  • A combined understanding of business needs with the IT solution
  • A balanced understanding of long- and short-term perspectives. Participate in a spectrum of relevant communities dealing with IT Architecture
  • Work with architectural artefacts supporting the IT solution design (e.g. data model, solution architecture design, integration maps etc.)
Responsibilities:
  • Quickly consume and understand GDS and overall Group IT landscapes to find hot spots, improvements, strategic steps moving the area towards a modern target state
  • Understands new technology, languages or development practices that have benefits for implementing
  • Work with innovation through PoCs, ideation and technical spikes, hands-on, suggest tools, technologies, and best practices to improve the stability, performance and quality of GDS
  • Interact and work with development teams to get the community in the same direction together with other architects and tech leads
  • Ensures SOLID principles and standard design patterns are applied to system architectures and implementations
  • Work with product management, business stakeholders and application architects to understand software requirements and helps estimate epics, features and stories when needed, help define the strategic and tactical direction of the full-stack architecture.
  • Drive the integration process between GDS and other applications/systems
  • Support for investigation of the most complex incidents/bugs

Qualifications:
  • Proven record of experience in architecture and programming enterprise products
  • Extensive knowledge of general engineering concepts like design patterns, OO programming and SOLID principles, UML, HTTP, MVC, APIs, data structures and algorithms
  • Knowledge and significant experience with development technologies like C#, C++, JavaScript, SQL
  • Great understanding and experience of test automation, mocking, monitoring, load testing towards APIs and backends
  • Extensive experience and knowledge the architectural styles such as MSA, SOA, REST, Layered Architecture, Monolithic Architecture
  • Relational DB - Db2, SQL, JDBC
  • RESTful services – OpenAPI, Swagger
  • IBMi skills - RPGLE, CLLE, DDS, SEU etc. (desired)
  • Java - Spring, Hibernate,VertX, JPA
  • Experience from one or several of Volvos core processes such as DVP, MAS, PRD, DCL will be additional asset
  • Relevant university degree

We are global team spread on several locations, Poland, UK, Sweden, India and China. GDS is recognized as Volvo’s core’ solution and is financially critical. The Solution is used in 35 markets, by 15000+ users. We work according to SAFe principals.
